This is the 4.5" daisy shaped kumihimo disk. This is laminated cardboard. It is very sturdy, but it is difficult to get thicker fiber into the slits. It would be an excellent way to see if you like braiding or want to take it traveling, but it is hard to use in the long haul. If you are looking for something inexpensive, the Fun Disk is a better long term option. Our recommendation, regardless of age, is to use a Hanamaka Disk. They are designed to last a long time and do a good job.
